SUMANTRA GHOSHAL. Hoje é um dia triste para Empreender. Chega-nos informação que Sumantra Ghoshal faleceu no início de Março. Tinha 55 anos e muito para nos ensinar. A notícia dada pela London Business School informa: "It is with great sadness that London Business School reports the death of Professor Sumantra Ghoshal. He passed away on 3 March, 2004 in London after a short illness. He was 55 years old. Sumantra Ghoshal joined the faculty of London Business School in 1994 as the Robert P. Bauman Professor of Strategic Leadership. He had a brilliant mind with amazing clarity of thought and was an inspiration to all who worked with him. He was Founding Dean of the Indian School of Business and, before joining London Business School was at INSEAD. He was also recently appointed a Fellow of the Advanced Institute of Management Research. Professor Ghoshal was a visionary thinker about the strategic, organisational and managerial issues confronting global companies and about the impact of organisations on society. He published 12 books, over 70 articles and many award-winning case studies. 'Managing Across Borders: The Transnational Solution', a book he co-authored with Christopher Bartlett, was listed in the Financial Times as one of the 50 most influential management books and has been translated into nine languages. His book, 'Managing Radical Change', co-authored with Christopher Bartlett and Gita Piramal won the Management Book of the Year award in India and 'The Differential Network: Organising the Multinational Corporation for Value Creation', co-authored with Nitin Nohria, won the George Terry prize, awarded by the Academy of Management, for the best book in 1998. Professor Ghoshal served as the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Duncan-Goenka and sat on the Boards of several organisations including the Lufthansa School of Business and Swiss Re. He was also a member of the Board of Overseers of Harvard Business School. In addition, he maintained teaching and consulting relationships with a wide range of American, European and Asian companies. With doctoral degrees from both the MIT School of Management and the Harvard Business School, Professor Ghoshal served on the Editorial Boards of several academic journals and was nominated to the Fellowships at the Academy of Management, the Academy of International Business and the World Economic Forum. Our condolences go to Sumantra's wife, Susmita, his two sons, Ananda and Siddhartha and his parents and brothers in Bangalore. London Business School Dean Laura Tyson comments: "Professor Ghoshal was a beloved member of the London Business School community, and his loss will be felt deeply by all of us for a very long time. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult moment. There will be a School memorial service in honour of Professor Ghoshal in the near future."
